Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is your style of wedding photography?
A: Generally, my style is photojournalism, with the option to include wedding party and family portraits. Through most of your day I will blend in with the crowd. I specialize in candids, and use mainly natural light. I do not set up complex mobile flash systems for portraits, and I will rarely ask you to pose during the important events of the day. Your formal group shots and bridal portraits will take advantage of what the wedding site has to offer.

Q: Do you have an assistant and/or second photographer?
A: Yes. My husband is a great second photographer and assists me with logistics and equipment on your wedding day. With two photographers we can capture special moments from different perspectives.

Q: What is your coverage area?
A: I provide my services throughout California and beyond. I can travel to any location for destination weddings. Generally no travel fees are incurred within 200 miles of San Luis Obispo, the greater Bay Area, or Sacramento.

Q: How long will you stick around and take pictures?
A: As long as you need. You can select a package with the amount of time you anticipate needing, and if you decide you want more time on the day of your wedding, I will simply bump up your package to the next level.

Q: I have a million things to do before our wedding day, how do I make sure you will get the shots I want?
A: I make it as easy as possible. I will meet with you 3 to 8 weeks prior to your wedding date and go over the events you have planned. Preferably we will meet at your wedding site. At that time I will ask you to fill out the "shot list" with all the photos you might want. Just fill it out and I will do my best during the day to capture every one.

Q: How soon after my wedding will I get my photos?
A: The DVD and online gallery will be given to you and posted online within 30 days. Prints will take an additional 2-3 weeks once selected by you. Albums will be delivered approximately 90 days after your event, depending on how quickly you review your draft album.

Q: What do I need to do to hold my date?
A: In order to hold the date, you need to provide Lunalily Photography with a $500 non-refundable retainer and sign the contract for services.

Q: Can coverage packages be customized?
A: Yes, upon request I will provide you a complete price list detailing optional add-ons to the base packages. If you don’t see what you need, please let me know and I will provide a custom package to you.

Q: Do you shoot film or digital?
A: I shoot primarily digital with professional Canon equipment. If requested, I will shoot a few rolls of film during the ceremony and portraits.

Q: If I hire Lunalily Photography, who will actually photograph my wedding?
A: As the owner and primary photographer I, Kaila Dettman, will be the one to photograph your day.

Q: Are you licensed?
A: Yes, Lunalily Photography is licensed through the City of San Luis Obispo, and is registered with the County of San Luis Obispo and the State of California per applicable laws and regulations. Documentation can be provided upon request.
